Creating a Job Retention Plan for Employees with Disabilities, by Rose Marie Harrell, State of Michigan (strategic credit pending)
Marie will walk participants through several cases studies helping members understand how to build a high performance workforce that includes retaining persons with disabilities. Marie will train attendees on how to retain employees who may encounter a disability after employment by understanding:
How to allocate internal resources by working with financial managers to retain disabled employees in the workforce
How to utilize current medical insurance policies for low cost retention options
How to conduct a cost-analysis to determine if the organization can retain the disabled employee or if the organization should search for other options
How to scan the external environment for possible community partnerships to manage the employee’s disability
How to develop a code of ethics for the organization to follow when dealing with a person who becomes disabled
Understand how to use workforce development vs. using social services for the employee with a disability
How to find additional community services that would assist in the retention of an employee with a disability
How ADA laws impact working with persons with disabilities
How to establish relationships with key organizations in the community to assist in achieving the organizations goals of retaining employees with disabilities
Ensure workforce planning employment activities are compliant with federal ADA regulations for retention of employees with disabilities
Learn how to use a job analyses to create a description that will allow a person with a disability to remain employed
