Collaboration between Education and Industry


Presentation Overview:

  • Developing a Talent Pipeline through collaboration of Education and Industry
  • What is Higher Education doing today to develop the talent that industry needs now and tomorrow
  • The opportunities for Industry partners to 'have a seat at the table' with Higher Education to develop and enhance the programs offered to today's students


Presentation Objectives:


  1. Discuss the role that higher education plays in aiding industry with closing the skills gap and developing the talent pipeline.
  2. Inform about specific opportunities in which industry can gain access to talent at local colleges and universities through their inclusion on Advisory Councils and Committees as well as providing internship and co-op opportunities.
  3. Discuss recent success stories (within the region) by which education and industry collaborated and how it produced results for both.
  4. Educate participants about the growing availability of grants and how industry participation is vital for their success as well as discuss the benefits for them being partners.

Brandon Roderick Tucker, a United States Air Force Veteran, is a seasoned hands-on leader that has vast experience in developing people and teams that contribute to an organization's mission and objectives. He began his career in public service providing direct talent acquisition and retention services for a host of companies (from small businesses to large fortune 100 and 200 companies).

He later transitioned to leading a team of professionals in a non-profit setting that provided diversity recruiting to local companies and job development and training to individuals with barriers to employment. Through his creative leadership he successful expanded the organization's capacity and portfolio to begin providing temporary staffing to a local government entity.

Brandon then successfully build and led a team at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI that provides training and development, organizational development, recruiting, and business engagement services to individuals and companies across various sectors including private, government, higher education, and non-profit.


Presently, he serves as Dean for the Advanced Technology & Public Services Careers division, one of the most diverse academic units on campus. In this role, Brandon serves as the academic and administrative leader for the Division which includes the areas of Automotive Services, Auto Body Repair, Advanced Manufacturing, Welding & Fabrication, HVAC, Criminal Justice, Child Care, and the Police Academy.


He holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Lourdes University and a Bachelors of Arts Degree with a dual concentration in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development from The University of Toledo.  He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education at the University of Toledo.




  This program has been approved for _ Professional Development Credits (PDCs) related to the SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge (SHRM BoCK) toward SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP Certifications.

This program has been approved for _ credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute.
